Now Casting Valric:

Valric: The Peacocking Champion

Title: Jewel of Spring, Defender of Courtly Perfection
Realm: The Royal Court (Court of Spring)
Role: Duelist, Performer, Reputation-Obsessed Noble, Unofficial Herald of Himself

Backstory:
Valric was born into one of the most celebrated noble houses of the Royal Court, a lineage so steeped in beauty and grace that family portraits are frequently mistaken for religious icons. From a young age, Valric was taught that charm is armor, and appearance is destiny. He excelled at both.

Though many believed he would ascend to power through marriage to the Court’s future queen, fate had other plans. His betrothed, the beloved princess of Spring, abandoned the court and joined the Adventurer’s Guild in Drakaris. The scandal rocked the realm. Valric was devastated. Or furious. Or inspired. It’s unclear which version is true, since he tells a different story each time.

Instead of retreating into disgrace, Valric doubled down. He became louder, bolder, and more dazzling than ever. He now lives to embody the essence of Courtly perfection: elegance, spectacle, and drama. He refers to himself in the third person, carries a mirror enchanted to flatter him, and insists that any party he enters becomes a royal event. And yet, behind the theatricality is a sharp mind. Valric knows exactly what he is doing and why.

He is, in many ways, the soul of the Royal Court. Beautiful, proud, and just a little bit tragic.

In-Person Character Interactions:

  • Ballroom Presence: Valric makes grand entrances and insists on announcing others who arrive behind him. He may carry a scroll of compliments or titles to bestow on guests he deems worthy.

  • Charm Duels: He may challenge guests to “duels” of charisma or wit, often ending in both parties receiving a small silk ribbon or flower pin as a token of his approval.

  • Scandal Sheets: Valric might carry a collection of whispered rumors about other realms (fabricated, of course) and share them discreetly with guests who “look like they can handle the truth.”

  • Flirtation & Approval: Guests in dramatic or well-accessorized outfits may find themselves the subject of Valric’s praise or friendly rivalry.

  • Valric carries a pouch of silk ribbons, each labeled “Second Place” in ornate script. When asked why, he simply raises a brow and says,
“Because clearly I’m first, darling. But you came close.”

  • Guests may proudly (or ironically) wear their Second Place ribbon as a badge of honor, some may even try to collect more than one.

  • A few rare ribbons might be labeled “Honorable Mention,” “Best Hair Flip,” or “Most Improved Posture,” based on Valric’s whims.

In the Lore:

  • Valric is often mentioned in satirical poems passed quietly between courtiers. He pretends to hate them, but secretly collects them all.

  • A portrait of him as “Champion of the Spring Tournament” stands in the Royal Court’s Garden of Portraits. It is unclear whether he commissioned it himself.

  • His family crest features a mirror, a rose, and a motto that translates roughly to “We Bloom Louder.”

Audition Script:

Guide: The monologue should be approx. 1min. Feel free to submit multiple takes or styles/interpretations of the character and text. You are encouraged to improvise!

VALRIC

Oh! Do forgive me, I didn't realize you were speaking while I was arriving.

It's an easy mistake. You see, brilliance has a way of interrupting lesser moments. 1 am Valric. (beat) Valric? Champion of the Royal Court?

Favored of mirrors, victor of contests you haven't even dared to imagine yet. You'll find I do not seek attention... it simply follows, tripping over itself to keep up. I win not because I must, but because the world finds comfort in my triumph. It is order restored, hierarchy reaffirmed, beauty correctly centered. Should you challenge me, do so boldly! I adore a spirited second place. Laugh with me, dance around me, try to outshine me if you wish. It's charming, truly. But understand this: the court shines brightest when I am at its center.
